A Minnesota driver who is a citizen of Red Lake Nation was ticketed recently for speeding and driving with “fake plates” in Georgia. “Johnathon Carlson, a Red Lake Nation member, was driving home after a family vacation in Florida when he was pulled over on the interstate. … Carlson’s license plates are issued by Red Lake Nation, a tribal nation in the northwest corner of the state,” according to MPR News. After the story broke, Crisp County Sheriff Billy Hancock has said that he is withdrawing the two citations issued to Carlson and will train deputies to recognize tribal plates. Via MinnPost
